Steven lost an arm after a traffic accident years ago. On that day, he was hit by a car. Thebones in his left arm were smashed(破碎的) to pieces, “l can't feel my hand!” Steven shoutedwhen he woke up in the hospital. It was the only thing he could think of to say, although it did himno good at all. It was a very difficult time for him.

But life went on. Steven spent the next two years in the hospital. At first, he couldn't even tiehis shoes, open a bottle of water or cut his fingernails (手指甲) by himself. Later on, with thesupport of his wife, he realized that he had no choice but to face life head-on

He started to take part in all kinds of activities. He even decided to learn to play the violinSteven knew nothing about playing the violin and had no one to ask for help until he met Lam, anamateur(业余的)violinist.

Steven became Lam's first student. He practiced playing the violin with Lam's helpSometimes he even played in public. When he played on the street, what people offered was notsympathy, but admiration.

Steven said playing the violin hasn’t necessarily made life easier for him, and he still has toface new challenges every day. However, he won't give up. And he said he would never stoptrying new things.

Passage 2

Harbin, the snowy capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, is called the “icecity"”. It caught the attention of' a great number of visitors during the New Year holiday this yearMany people were drawn by the great ice sculptures (冰) of its lce and Snow Festival. Amongthem, 1l special visitors got a lot of attention all over the country. What is so special about thesevisitors?

Well, the 1l visitors are a group of children aged between 3 and 6. Led by three teachersthey come to Northeast China from Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for a studytour. The lovely kids wear orange coats, so people call them “'small sugar oranges”

At first, some parents were worried. But then they found that the children enjoyed their trip, the children played ice and snow games. They tried ice skating and built snowmenThey also made new friends. They spent time together in the cold wind, learned to work togetheand helped each other. This group of“small sugar oranges" also visited China's northernmost firestation in Mohe. There they sang the national anthem (国歌) and showed their thanks to thefirefighters.

The study tour was very meaningful!” says one of the parents.

Passage 1

Lian Po and Lin Xiangru were two important people in the State of Zhao. Lian was a bravegeneral, and Lin was an excellent advisor. Lian was famous for winning battles (战役) and makinghis enemies scared. Lin,on the other hand, was clever and knew how to use words to solveproblems. He once saved the Heshibi for the King ofZhao and became a trusted advisor.

But there was a problem. Lian felt worried after Lin got a higher position than him, becausehe thought he should be given honor for his achievements on the battlefields. Sometimes, Liareven spoke bad-speaking words behind Lin

Lin didn't want any trouble, so he avoided meeting Lian. But Lian though he was winningbecause it appeared that Lin was scared of him. 

Lin's friends, however, were upset about thisThey thought Lin was too kind and weak. But Lin explained that he didn't have reasons to fightLian because it would harm their country. He believed that if they pull together, the State of Zhacwould become powerful.

When Lian heard this, he felt ashamed. He realized he was being foolish and also causectrouble for their country. So he said sorry to Lin, and they became good friends. They workedtogether to serve the State of Zhao and forget about personal problems. Lian and Lin showed usthat even if we have differences, we can still put aside our pride and achieve great things
