Part III Read the Filling Words (20 points)
Passage 1
Peer pressure happens when people around you try to make you act differently. Your friends and other people of your age can influence what you say or do. Sometimes, you might feel you must be like them to fit in. People often change their behavior because they want others to accept them. Your classmates might encourage you to skip class or break some school rules. You could feel forced to wear certain clothes just to be cool.
Peer pressure is not always negative, as it can also push you toward good things. Your friends might inspire you to study harder for better grades. They could encourage you to join sports teams or try new healthy activities.
Teenagers usually feel peer pressure more strongly than other age groups do. One reason is that young people care a lot about what their friends think of them. Another factor is that they want to belong to groups and feel accepted by others.
It is important to know how to handle peer pressure in healthy ways. You should learn to say no when you feel uncomfortable about something. Good friends will respect your choices and not force you to change. Talking to parents or teachers can help when peer pressure becomes too much. They can give you advice about making good choices for yourself. Remember that your opinions and feelings matter more than others’ expectations. You can stay true to yourself while still having friends and being social. Choose friends who share your values and respect your decisions. Real friendship means accepting each other without forcing changes.

Passage 2
Two women were at the airport. They were waiting for their flight. The first woman had a red bag. The second woman carried a blue one. They sat next to each other. Both looked a bit tired.
The woman with the red bag spoke first. “The subway was very crowded today,” she said. “I had to stand all the way.” The other woman nodded. “I know what you mean. I took the subway too. My arms hurt from holding my luggage.”
Then, the woman with the blue bag asked, “Did you buy a special ticket for the subway?” “Yes,” the first woman replied. “I bought a ticket just for the airport. It costs a little more, but it’s fast.” They both agreed that the subway was the best choice when you have bags.
The conversation then turned to other ways of travel. “My friend came here on her bicycle once,” said the blue bag woman. “She said it was fun but hard with luggage.” They both laughed at that. “Yes, that would be hard!” the woman with the red bag exclaimed.
They continued to chat about their trips. Soon, they heard the announcement for their flight. They picked up their bags and got ready to board. “It was nice to talk with you,” they said to each other. With a smile, they walked to their gate.
